Physical Development
At five weeks old, the puppies are beginning to show significant physical changes:
Weight Gain: Each puppy is steadily gaining weight, steadily and most a fully weened having started solid food this week.
Coat Development: The puppies’ coats are becoming more defined, showcasing the beautiful silky texture characteristic of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Their colours are also becoming more vibrant, making each puppy's unique markings stand out.
Teething: The puppies have started teething, leading to increased chewing behaviours. Providing appropriate chew toys helps soothe their gums (and relieve our fingers!!) during this transition.
Socialisation and Behaviour
Puppy socialisation is a critical aspect of a puppy's development, and at five weeks, these puppies are becoming more interactive:
Playfulness: The puppies are now more playful, engaging in games with each other and exploring their environment. Each day we introduce a new toy for play which you can check out some of the videos on our social media pages. This playtime is essential for developing their social skills.
Interaction with Humans: They are becoming more comfortable with human interaction, eagerly seeking attention and affection from their caregivers.
Vocalisation: The puppies are starting to vocalise more, experimenting with barks and whines as they communicate with their littermates and humans. They are loudest when they see their mumma, Rose!
Sensory: Each of the puppies has been exposed to a range of sensory stimulatation, ie water and white noise to desensitise them.
Health Check and General Care
Regular health checks are crucial during this developmental stage:
Veterinary Check-Up: The puppies have continued to receive their deworming treatment every two weeks. They are also booked in for their second Vet check and 6 week vaccination and microchipping for next week.
Monitoring Growth: Each puppy's growth and development are being closely monitored to ensure they are on track for their age.
Preparing for Their Forever Homes
As the puppies approach the six-week mark, preparations for their forever homes are underway:
Early Training: Basic training is starting, focusing on potty training and socialisation skills to help them adjust to their new families. They are getting good at toileting outside or on the pee mats.
Finding Families: Interested families are encouraged to reach out if they are looking to welcome a Cavalier King Charles puppy into their home. We are committed to finding loving families for each puppy.
The five-week mark is an exciting time in Rose and Bentley's purebred Cavalier King Charles litter. With their physical growth, socialisation skills, and health checks, these puppies are well on their way to becoming wonderful companions. Stay tuned for more updates as they continue to grow and prepare for their new homes!
